The beauty of painting landscapes outdoors is that you can walk around in your subject and choose the best angle. In physically doing that you begin to feel a greater freedom to start moving elements around within your painting, because for instance you’ll see a tree looks great from this angle, but it would be better if it didn’t have that other big tree behind it. The difference between doing that and only using a single viewpoint from a photograph is huge. That’s why it’s a great idea, if you do want to paint from photos, to take lots of photos from different angles and even videos to give you lots of options when you get back to the studio.
I hope you enjoy this short video.
Happy Painting,
