Painting with more VaRiEtY!

Beginners paintings are often distinguished by a lack of variety. They often display large areas of flat colour, brushwork that is all too similar, and shapes that are repetitious (eg, trees or hills the same shape and size).

That’s all because of our natural tendency to simplify and make patterns. As painters it’s our job to overcome these inbuilt tendencies, to make rich, interesting painting full of variety.
Have a think about that next time you’re painting. Enjoy!

This is just a small snippet from the First Snow painting lesson.

Happy Painting,

Richard.
